Who is moving into Massachusetts and who is leaving, from the Census Bureau's yearly estimates and the moving companies' own reports.

Massachusetts, July 2024 to June 2025: 33,340 more people moved to other states than came from them; +40,240 from abroad; net migration +6,900 (Census Bureau, Vintage 2025).

Population 7,154,084 on July 1, 2025 (7,138,560 a year before).

Boston-Cambridge-Newton, MA-NH metro area: −29,132 from other states, +30,913 from abroad, population 5,034,221.

The moving companies: United Van Lines 2025: Massachusetts no. 7 among outbound states. North American Van Lines 2025: 50% of moves in, 50% out (balanced). Atlas Van Lines 2025: balanced. U-Haul Growth Index 2025: Massachusetts among the bottom five. Penske Truck Rental 2025: no Massachusetts city among the top ten moving destinations.
